History

Dr. Forrest M. Smith Jr., M.D., was a long-time pediatrician in San Antonio known for his likeable personality and compassionate bedside manner. In 1963, Dr. Smith saw the amount of time it took his young diaper rash patients to heal, so he set out to do something about the distress the condition was causing babies and their parents alike. He teamed up with two pharmacists, Erwin Batha and Marty Rubin of Royal Pharmacy, and went through recipe after recipe to create the perfect premium blend of ingredients known as Dr. Smith’s Diaper Ointment.

For 45 years, the product’s founders relied on word of mouth and sold the product through Royal Pharmacy in San Antonio. In September 2009, Dr. Smith’s Diaper Ointment was acquired by Mission Pharmacal Company. For more than 60 years, Mission Pharmacal Company has been committed to meeting the unique needs of women throughout all stages of life, identifying unmet health needs in the marketplace, and developing innovative prescription and over-the-counter products to meet them. Dr. Smith’s Diaper Ointment is currently regarded as one of the best diaper ointment creams sold in the U.S. due to its effectiveness and gentleness in helping treat even severe diaper rash.

Distribution

Dr. Smith’s Diaper Ointment is sold in a 2-ounce tub or 3-ounce tube and is sold through a variety of retail outlets and online through drugstore.com and amazon.com. For more information, go to www. doctorsmiths.com. You can also fi nd Dr. Smith’s Diaper Ointment on Facebook and Twitter.
